The white blobs are groups of adipose cells. In addition to fat storage, these cells play a major role in regulating metabolism and homeostasis. Apart from D. quadripunctatus you can see them under the cuticle of newly eclosed ants of certain species (most particularly Ponera and Hypoponera, which have amazingly transparent cuticles at first).
