This is explanation of latin abbreviations that has actual meaning. They usualy extent with -us(male),-um(neutral),-a(female),-is,-e, etc. There can allso be combinations of those abbreviations in single name, forinstance: Hierophis viridiflavus where 'viridiflavus' combines meaning of green and pale yellow color. Clicking on links will show you actual examples of specieses having meaningful latin names.
Note allso that clicking forinstance on 'nigr' alias 'black' will allso show you 'Avena fatua'. Nowhere 'nigr' here , right ? But this is OK, since synonim for that is 'Avena nigra'. How to check that ? When you get to thumbnails, click on thumbnail title.
Navadno se koreni besed podaljšujejo z: -us(moški sp.),-um(nevtralno),-a(ženski sp.),-is,-e, itd.
